Quiz Modes
We offer three quiz modes: each designed for a different purpose:
Practice Mode
Think of this as your training zone. There’s no timer, and you’ll get instant feedback after every answer. You can tweak settings mid-session, focus on specific types, and experiment freely without pressure.
- Found directly on the Home page.
- Adjust settings on the fly via the sidebar.
- Great for learning matchups at your own pace.
- Choose how to advance: delay five seconds, move on immediately, or tap manually when you are ready.
Timed Mode
This is the real challenge. You’ll answer a fixed number of questions (often 60), and your score will depend on both accuracy and speed.
- Start from the Home page.
- Configure the quiz before starting.
- Top scores can be submitted to the global leaderboard (login required).
Challenge Mode
Take on the Daily Challenge: one minute with the same questions for everyone, resetting at 6AM PST. Retry as many times as you want; only your best run counts.
- Rankings prioritize most correct answers.
- Ties break by longest streak, then fewest attempts, then earliest submission.
- A mini leaderboard shows the top performers and your personal best.
Setting Up Your Quiz
The interactive quiz interface lives on the Home page. Here’s how you can customize your experience:
Type Focus
Choose a specific attacking type. Every question in the quiz will use this type on offense.
Dual Type Focus (Defensive Only)
If you’ve unlocked full access, you can test against specific dual-type defenders. Pick any two types: they’ll be sorted alphabetically, so combinations like Fire/Flying and Flying/Fire are treated the same.
Defense Type Options
Decide what types of defenders you want to face:
- Mono-type: Defenders have only one type.
- Dual-type: Defenders have two types.
- Both: Mix of single and dual-type defenders.
Note: Dual-type focus is only available when dual-type defenders are selected.
Perspective: Offensive vs. Defensive
This setting changes how questions are framed, even though the matchup logic stays the same:
- Offensive: You're given the attacker and defender: pick the damage dealt.
- Defensive: You're shown a defender and asked to choose the incoming attack’s effectiveness.
(Our current quiz UI uses offensive phrasing, but the perspective setting still affects which questions are shown when using Type Focus.)
Answering Questions
Each quiz question presents one attacking type and one or two defending types. Your goal is to select the correct damage multiplier from the options below:
- 0× – Has no effect
- 0.25× – Mostly ineffective
- 0.5× – Not very effective
- 1× – Normal effectiveness
- 2× – Super effective
- 4× – Extremely effective
Click the button you believe is correct.
- In Practice Mode, you’ll get immediate feedback and see the correct answer if you're wrong.
- In Timed Mode, you’ll move on instantly: results will be shown at the end.
How Scoring Works
Practice Mode
This mode is focused on learning. There’s no official score for the leaderboard, but you’ll see:
- Immediate feedback on each answer
- Optional stats like streaks or percent correct
Timed Mode
Here, performance matters. Your final score is based on:
- Accuracy: the percentage of correct answers
- Speed: how quickly you completed the quiz
Both metrics are shown on a results screen when the quiz ends.
Challenge Mode
Daily challenges rank players by the most correct answers in one minute. Ties are resolved by longest streak, then fewest attempts, then earliest submission.
Leaderboard Submissions
Finished a great Timed Mode run or Daily Challenge attempt? If your score stands out, you’ll be given the option to save it to the global leaderboard.
- Important: You must be logged in at the time you submit your score.
- Anonymous scores cannot be added later.
This keeps the leaderboard fair and ensures all entries are linked to real users.
Track Your Progress
The Progress page displays a ring for each quiz you have tried. As your accuracy improves the ring fills, changing from red to green.
- The percentage shows your best accuracy and the small number indicates your current leaderboard rank.
- Your fastest time is also recorded, helping you measure both knowledge and speed.
- Visit this section often to spot weaknesses and celebrate your improvements.
Higher accuracy and quicker times will fill the rings and move your name higher on the global leaderboard.
