Fair Play Policy
Effective date: October 23, 2025
Applies to: All modes, including Timed, Daily Challenge, and Pokédex Timed.
Why this exists
Type Matchup Quiz is most fun when everyone competes on a level playing field. This policy explains what counts as fair play, what is not allowed, how we review unusual activity, and how to appeal.
Fair play basics
- One person, one account: Do not share accounts or create multiple accounts to gain an advantage.
- No automation: Do not use scripts, macros, bots, auto-clickers, or any tool that answers for you or times your inputs.
- No data leaks: Do not scrape, cache, or reuse answer keys. Do not intercept API traffic or modify the client to reveal answers.
- No exploits: Do not abuse bugs, tamper with timers, forge requests, or manipulate network latency.
- Be honest on leaderboards: Your posted scores must reflect your own play without outside assistance.
What is allowed
- Normal hardware and software: mouse, keyboard, touch, and built-in accessibility features.
- Training legitimately: studying type charts, practicing in-app, replaying modes to improve.
- Streaming or recording your play.
Accessibility and accommodations
We support accessibility tools used by you to interact with the app. If you rely on assistive tech that could look like automation, contact support so we can note your account and avoid unnecessary interruptions.
Examples
Allowed
- Using a gaming mouse or hotkeys.
- Practicing repeatedly to improve speed.
- Playing on mobile with tap input.
Not allowed
- Auto-clicker clicking every ~700 ms.
- Browser extensions that prefill answers.
- Tools that reveal correct choices by intercepting traffic.
- Shared “team” account posting combined scores.
How we protect integrity
We analyze gameplay to deter abuse and protect honest players. Signals may include:
- Unnatural velocity: extremely fast answer times sustained for long stretches.
- Rhythmic patterns: highly regular inter-answer timing indicative of macros.
- Consistency anomalies: high accuracy at machine-like speeds across large volumes.
- Technical indicators: forged or modified requests, client tampering.
We may use lightweight verification such as CAPTCHAs or quick in-app checks before accepting new leaderboard results. We do not disclose specific thresholds to prevent evasion.
What happens if we detect unusual activity
- Soft review: We may temporarily pause leaderboard posting from your account and request quick verification.
- Notification: We will email the address on file explaining that your account is under review.
- Outcome: We may clear, adjust, or lock scores depending on what we find.
- Cleared: Access is restored; recent scores are kept.
- Adjusted: Clearly illegitimate scores are removed; access restored.
- Locked or banned: For repeated or severe violations, leaderboard access or the account may be suspended.
We preserve existing data but may hide or mark scores as Provisional during a review.
Appeals and support
If your account was flagged in error:
- Reply to our email or contact typematchupquiz+support@gmail.com from the address on your account.
- Confirm you are not using automation and agree to this policy.
- Complete any requested verification so we can restore full access.
We review appeals as quickly as possible.
Data we may collect for anti-abuse
To keep things fair, we may log:
- Timestamps for when a question is served and when an answer is submitted.
- Answer times, correctness, session boundaries, and coarse technical details (for example, user agent).
- Aggregated integrity signals used to detect automation.
These logs are used only to protect the game experience and leaderboards and are retained for a limited period consistent with our Privacy Policy.
Reporting
If you see suspicious activity or a leaderboard entry that seems impossible, email typematchupquiz+support@gmail.com with details (username, date, mode).
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy to address new forms of abuse. Material changes will be posted here, and your continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance.
Quick summary
- Compete fairly: no bots, macros, exploits, or shared accounts.
- We use verification when patterns look automated.
- You can appeal any action; we are happy to review and reinstate legitimate players.
