Why Use a Weakness Calculator?
Memorizing every type interaction is tough, especially with dual types. A Pokémon weakness calculator removes the guesswork. Whether you're building a VGC team, climbing the ladder on Showdown, or just playing through Scarlet & Violet, knowing your team's vulnerabilities is key to victory.
How to Use This Tool
Our calculator is designed for speed and accuracy:
- Select the Primary Type: Choose the first type of the Pokémon (e.g., Fire).
- Select the Secondary Type (Optional): If the Pokémon has two types (e.g., Fire/Flying), select the second one.
- Analyze the Results: The chart below automatically updates to show you:
- 4× Weaknesses: Extremely dangerous threats.
- 2× Weaknesses: Standard threats to watch out for.
- Resistances: Moves that will do little damage.
- Immunities: Moves that will do zero damage.
Understanding Type Coverage
Defensive coverage refers to how well a Pokémon can take hits from different types. A Pokémon with few weaknesses and many resistances has excellent defensive coverage (like Steel types).
Offensive coverage is the opposite: how many types your moves can hit for super-effective damage. While this tool focuses on defense, knowing your opponent's defensive profile helps you choose the right offensive move.
Dual Types & 4× Weaknesses
Dual types can be a blessing or a curse. They often add resistances, but they can also create 4× weaknesses (double weaknesses).
For example, a Gyarados (Water/Flying) is 4× weak to Electric moves because both Water and Flying are weak to Electric. One Thunderbolt usually results in a one-hit KO (OHKO). Use this calculator to identify these critical vulnerabilities in your own team.
